With over 30,000 people employed in the Medical Device Sector in Ireland and 50% of these firms investing in R&D; the sector is set for a fantastic 2017.
The Medical Device sector has historically always needed too and wanted to develop and release new products onto the Market. And with aging demographics in the developed world R&D has been at the core of this trend.
A recent KPMG Report found that many of these companies are; “..shifting their innovation strategies from incremental toward breakthrough innovation(s)” And at ISS Ltd we have certainly seen this trend with many of our clients.
What is driving this trend is multifaceted; Product Maturity, Patient (End User) Input etc, but the firms which can best react and put in the investment today will see the rewards in the future.
My clients look for a diverse range of skills and experience when they recruit R&D roles within their organizations and increasingly Academic backgrounds are becoming less relevant.
The most Innovative & Creative Thinking is coming more from Engineers who have invested in Customer Facing experiences.
If you are working in R&D or New Product Development and are looking for a new challenge in 2017 please feel free to get in contact.
