I recently bought a new Printer for the office, a not to irregular occurrence for any business you would think, but what was an otherwise everyday purchase demonstrated to me once again the benefits of supporting your local business over the multinational machine.
The statistical possibility of IT hardware failing is prity low, and “Murphy’s Law” I had to get the Printer this time round. That is certainly not the reason I write this blog today; but how the After Sales Process was handled. Not only could I not get the answers I wanted, I ended up dealing with an unsympathetic Customer Support Team and a printer that still doesn’t work and a refund that is still floating through some off shore bank; I can only imagine.
This is not going to be one of those stories I promise you. It has a good ending and it was what I did next which really impressed me. As I urgently needed to print a hard copy contract for a client to sign I simply went down the local high-street and bought a printer of one of the local IT Suppliers in the small town next to me.
I was so impressed with this small business owner that I am driven to write this blog today. He took the time to explain the different printers he stocked, the price of Ink, warranty and other key features. He even went as far to ring me that evening to ensure everything was ok. And this is why I will be going back to him for all my IT related issues in the future.
I know why he did what he did. It was his business and he knows that the success or otherwise of his store depends on befriending and ensuring that all his clients are his top priority. Why did I not get this same service from a Multi-national corporate firm, well that is for another day’s blog?
