It goes without saying in this business that the best person doesn’t always gets the job; but the person who does the best Interview.
At Independent Search Solutions I always ensure that my candidates are fully briefed and Prepared for all the Interviews they attend; and like most things in life the more you put into your preparation the more you will get out.
Below I have included some specific advice on how to over-come those pre Interview Nerves –
Preparation is Key:
1) Fully research the company you are going to Interview with (Website, Trade Magazines, Marketing Material, News Etc)
2) Read and understand the Job Spec (It is not so much what you have to offer that is key, but what are they looking for, Match your Skills to their Expectations)
3) At ISS Ltd I would meet with you in person to discuss who you are going to meet, what their positions in the company are, what they tend to ask in Interview & what they are like as people
4) Plan out the Interview in your head before you go in
5) Exercise the day before, it has been shown that a long walk, a run or swim will release endorphins and other hormones that relax you and produce a positive mind set
On the Day:
1) Turn up early, the worst thing for nerves is rushing in and being under pressure as you arrive. You ideally want to arrive 15 minutes before so you can gather your thoughts
2) At ISS Ltd I will always ring a candidate just before they go into Interview; it is perfectly natural to be nervous and I find that talking out any concerns you have is a great way to release that nervous energy
Remember no one is trying to trip you up, the person interviewing you will have been on the other side of the table in the past and fully understand what you are feeling.
Be your-self and proud of your experience and achievements to date and remember let the Interviewers talk as much as you are, they want to sell their company to you as well.
