Why does it take so long to get feedback during the Recruitment Process? It is probably not what you think.
I have personally recruited 1000’s of Jobs for companies and the same issues around getting feedback always coming up.
Whether you are applying to be CEO or Laboratory Technician her is the top five reasons you will always wait longer than you expected to get feedback.
- Hiring Managers have other Jobs
Any Manager in an organisation which has budget and authority to Hire will almost certainly have multiple other responsibilities which are more pressing than reviewing CVs, meeting candidates, giving detailed feedback and negotiating packages. They may even be covering the responsibilities of the very role they are recruiting.
- Multiple Decision Makers
Rarely in any organisation does one person have the total authority to hire, it usually involves direct supervisors, senior management, finance personal as well as HR all wanting to meet and have their input into the recruitment process. And then they all must decide on the one person they would like to make an offer to.
- Time Frame
An average recruitment process is 2-3 Months, from Job Specs been issued to final offers of employments; and for certain roles this can stretch to 6 Months Plus. If you apply in early and are interviewed within the first week it may be 4-6 weeks till you get any feedback, as they are meeting other candidates.
- The Grass is always Greener
Often in any Job Spec there is a detailed description of who a company wants to hire, but the more subtle aspects of the role are hard to define, and this will always be at the back of the mind of any Hiring Manager. We don’t always get everything we want, but it doesn’t stop use searching.
- Plan’s Change
The one guarantee in business is there is no guarantees. Priorities change, demand can fall off, the Market is always in flux, all of which can directly relate to whether a business even needs to fill a role. Incredibly frustrating for any candidate, but a simple reality of business.
Human nature being as it is, we all tend to think the worse, and when it comes to recruitment this is no different; at ISS Ltd we keep all our candidates informed with email / phone up-dates every two weeks until a final decision is made.
Not all Agencies are the same; the next time you chose to change role make sure to consider ISS Ltd.
Please feel free to get in contact if there are any roles, we are currently advertising that you would like to discuss.
